Creative Direction

High-energy and team-authentic. Each graphic adapts to the franchise's color palette and visual identity while maintaining a unified design system across the package. The approach balances the kinetic energy of live sports with clean typographic hierarchy — ensuring every stat, name, and score is instantly legible at broadcast speed.

Visual Approach: Dynamic wipe transitions, bold typography, team-specific color adaptation
Design System: Modular template structure allowing rapid team re-skinning across NBA and WNBA franchises

The Process

Design & Animation Pipeline:
The graphics were designed in Photoshop and Illustrator for static layout and asset creation, then brought into After Effects for animation. Each template was built with expression-driven controls so team colors, logos, and player data could be swapped without rebuilding the animation from scratch.

Workflow:

  1. Research & Moodboarding: Studied existing NBA and WNBA broadcast packages across ESPN, TNT, and regional networks to identify conventions and opportunities for differentiation.
  2. Asset Design: Created vector-based graphic templates in Illustrator — player card frames, stat bar layouts, lower thirds, and transition wipe shapes.
  3. Team Adaptation: Built a color and logo management system allowing each graphic to be re-skinned per franchise while maintaining the overall design language.
  4. Animation: Animated all elements in After Effects with fast, punchy timing — wipe-on reveals, counter-style stat animations, and logo stingers.
  5. Audio Design: Synced animations to impact sound effects and whoosh transitions for broadcast-appropriate energy.
